Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

I created this piece for the 2012 Surfers Paradise Festival. It was a large-scale piece of cardboard typography, designed to be glued to a 5 metre high concrete wall in a back alley, but unfortunately I found out the wall was off-limits 24 hours before the piece was due to be installed, so it was hastily re-rigged to attach to a wire fence instead. This left the top a little floppy, hence no decent photographs of the full piece. I’m still fairly happy with how it turned out and I think I’ll try and re-cut a smaller version, as 15 square metres of floppy cardboard in a windy alleyway was asking for trouble really.

I decided to use the word “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” because the wall was so large and this was the largest word I could think of to fill it, and cardboard seemed the only appropriate material for a back alley in Surfer’s Paradise. It’s ironic, because the piece will probably end up in the skip at the end of the alley way after all.
