EPISODE 2: As a busy creative, it is often a struggle to clear space in your mind to think creatively. It is all too easy to get distracted with the worries and problems of the day, and creative ideas get drowned out by brain chatter. Without a daily dose of mental clarity, you will lose sight of the bigger picture and spend all your time among the weeds.
“Journal to awaken your mind and transform your life”—Asad Meah
Brain chatter is a creativity killer
One of the most significant areas where creatives struggle to find space might surprise you. It is not space in your calendar. It is not studio space. Believe it or not, it is space in your brain.
It is estimated we think between 2000–3000 thoughts per hour, but when you think too many jumbled thoughts or the same ideas over and over again, it makes it difficult to think clearly or creatively.
Without a clear head and space to think, it is impossible to get your best work done
In my book Creative Space, I offer up several strategies for clearing out your mind to make room for creativity, but one of my favourite tools is daily journaling.
In today’s podcast episode, you will discover:
- Why you should develop a daily journal habit
- How to use stream-of-consciousness writing to clear your mind
- Why your focus shouldn’t be on spelling and punctuation
- How you can reliably access your subconscious every day
- Strategies for developing a daily journaling habit
- How to get faster at writing
- The importance of letting go.
