25. Embrace your procrastiworking tendencies

Sep 28, 2020

EPISODE 25: Procrastiworking is a term I first heard designer Jessica Hische use, and it refers to the work you do (or feel like doing) while putting off the work you don’t feel like doing. This term applies to most designers, creatives, freelancers and entrepreneurs.
If Procrastination means you are doing something to avoid doing something else, then productive procrastination means you are not wasting your time when you are doing it.

I am not talking about time-wasting here, I am talking about active work-avoidance. If you are not focused or engaged on the task at hand, your brain is hardwired to look for another stimulus.

Run-of-the-mill passive procrastination refers to avoiding unpleasant chores by watching television, cleaning the house or painting your nails.

Procrastiworking refers to avoiding reconciling bank statements by working on your About Me page, or watching a video that teaches brush pen calligraphy when you should be editing a client’s website.

Active work avoidance is a valuable clue as to where your skills and strengths would be put to best use. By identifying what you would prefer to be doing, you can design the framework for your Creative Superpower.

In today’s podcast episode, you will discover:
