Episode 34. Steal your time back

EPISODE 34: No matter who you talk to, not having enough time is always listed as one of the top three reasons why something cannot be done. “I’d love to write a book, but I don’t have the time.” “I’d like to start a business, but I work forty hours a week.” “I wish I had more time to practice the guitar, but the kids take priority when I am at home.”
Allowing time to block your creativity is easy to justify. Everyone you talk to will reinforce this block. No one has “time” to do fun things if they have responsibilities. This is why it is easy to talk about doing things “one day” as if a sabbatical will magically appear and give you weeks of free time to write that book finally. 
 
Here’s the thing. For many of us, the delicious block of “free time” never appears. If it does magically appear, such as during coronavirus lockdown, it is still difficult to “find the time” to be creative for a variety of reasons, many of them blocks.
 
Alas, the only way to be creatively productive whilst busy, is to steal time back from your day. This means getting clear on what you want to do with the time, identifying when time creep is likely to occur, and being prepared to capitalise on any time gifts that befall you.
