The Moment I Discovered My Creative Purpose

Oct 30, 2022

I sat there staring at my husband. He'd just rolled his eyes at me when I was excitedly explaining my new project idea. Why wasn't he as excited as me?

Instead, he'd responded with "ah yes, another one of your projects" and made sarcastic air quotes around "projects".

I knew at that moment he was right. It wouldn't last because they never did. There was always another new creative idea on the horizon to get excited about, and he would soon forget this one, so why should he bother getting excited?

I felt like such a flake.

That was seven years ago, but it still feels like yesterday. I was running myself ragged, chasing every new idea. I wanted to be calm, clear, focused, and most of all … certain.

For years, I wanted to do something creatively successful. I had always been creative but never "successful"—I never stuck at one thing long enough. The shiny promise of a new idea always beats the monotony of keeping going with the current one, but I could never choose just one idea when so many others might be the answer.

Shortly after that eye roll, I was scrolling social on my phone, and something stopped me in my tracks. It was a diagram of four overlapping circles called The Ikigai. So I stopped to read more, and according to Wikipedia: Ikigai ('a reason for being') is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for living. It hit me like a bolt of lightning, and from that moment, I stopped chasing new ideas and started chasing the purpose of my ideas.

Now, seven years later, that search for my creative purpose has transformed my life and—I can say this with a tremendous amount of pride—the lives of many others as well. Not only was that moment the beginning of my online business and a focus for ALL of my creative energies—it was the beginning of my life's work.

Seven years from that moment, I have discovered with all certainty the purpose of my creative gifts—my creative superpower—and I have helped some incredible multi-passionate women to find theirs as well.

It still blows my mind.

After all, it wasn't that long ago I was chasing every new idea, starting endless new Instagram accounts, planning new "projects", and designing new logos for my new "brand" ideas, only to have them fizzle out be replaced by new ones.

Can you relate to that "new idea exhaustion"?

You may not be running after every new idea—perhaps you know precisely what you're meant to do with your creative gifts, but you don't know how to take the next step.

Whether you suffer from shiny object syndrome like I did or are stuck in analysis paralysis, not knowing what to do next, you end up going around in circles—burning out or spinning your wheels.

So, if you've felt that passion for starting your own creative business, writing a book, or creating a meaningful project that brings you joy, then I URGE you to stop going around in circles and find your creative purpose first; the rest will fall into place.

Yes, it's possible. Even with...

...A full-time job.

...A family and kids.

...The voice in your head says, "who do you think you are?"

...Fear that things may not work out.

...A lack of self-confidence.

This is why I'm now so passionate about helping people get clear on their unique Creative Superpower.

I want others to realise what I have: that you CAN find focus for your creative gifts and that searching for your purpose is your most crucial job until you know what it is.

For now, I want you to think about what it would feel like if you were crystal clear on the purpose of your creative gifts and laser-focused on your goals.

How would it feel to have complete confidence in your unique Creative Superpower and a clear plan to help people with your gifts?
